Twilight/New Moon fanmix
This is a fanmix for Twilight and New Moon, mostly centered around Bella and Edward, but with a little bit of Jacob thrown in too. I used Gaspard Ulliel for Edward and Emily Browning for Bella... because just because.

Everything's feeling unclear / I wish it was raining / Cause I hate every beautiful day
WHY:
"Is it normal for the... Cullens... to be out of school a lot?" I failed miserably in my attempt to sound nonchalant.
"Yes, when the weather is good they go backpacking all the time - even the doctor. They're all real outdoorsy." - Twilight, p. 155
"There's a reason we chose the Olympic Peninsula, one of the most sunless places in the world. It's nice to be able to go outside in the day." - Twilight, p. 291.
Even though Bella hates the rain, she's always anticipating seeing Edward in school, and you can really feel her disappointment when it's sunny out, and he's not there.
You don't know what it's been like / Meeting someone like you
WHY:
"Kryptonite doesn't bother me either," he chuckled. - Twilight, p. 92
Edward has such an air of mystery about him when Bella first met him. I feel like this song, especially the beginning, sounds a little mysterious and chorus could be from either of their perspectives.
Who's gonna drive you home tonight? / Who's gonna pick you up / When you fall?
WHY:
"Get in," a furious voice commanded.
It was amazing how instantaneously the choking fear vanished, amazing how suddenly the feeling of security washed over me... as soon as I heard his voice. I jumped into the seat, slamming the door shut behind me. - Twilight, p. 162
He could drive well, when he kept the speed reasonable, I had to admit. Like so many things, it seemed to be effortless to him. - Twilight, p. 286
Who else but Edward is going to protect Bella, take her in his stupid, shiny Volvo, and take care of her? This song is in the point of view of someone who is totally in control, which I relate to the second quote.
Shadows all around you as you surface from the dark / Emerging from the gentle grip of night's unfolding arms / Darkness, darkness everywhere, do you feel all alone? ... You don't see what you possess, a beauty calm and clear / It floods the sky and blurs the darkness like a chandelier
WHY:
...amazed, yet again, by how graceful he was. I probably should have been used to it by now - but I wasn't. I had a feeling Edward wasn't the kind of person anyone got used to. - Twilight, p. 178
All of the nighttime references in this song make me think of Edward. It also really reminds me of him because the song talks so much about beauty, and almost makes it sound like the person they are talking about is unaware of their own beauty:
"Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night... And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty..." ... I wanted to believe him, but this was</i> my life without him that he was describing, not the other way around. - New Moon, p. 514
I'm awake / You sleep on and on ... I'm breathing you in / Don't get up, I'm in heaven ... Breathing in my, my sleepy girl
WHY:
"I come here almost every night." - Twilight, p. 293
Edward hadn't moved a fraction of an inch, a carving of Adonis perched on my faded quilt... He bent his face slowly to mine, laying his cool cheek against my skin. I held perfectly still.
"Mmmmmm...," he breathed. Twilight, p. 299
Just a soft, sweet song for when Edward watches over Bella as she sleeps.
The moon is full but there is an incompleteness / The days are beautiful but I feel a bitter sweetness / If I had a wish, or even a choice / I'd wake up to the sound of your voice / How I miss waking up to the sound of your voice
WHY:
It was a furious voice, a familiar voice, a beautiful voice - soft like velvet even though it was irate. It was his voice... and I was surprised the sound of it did not knock me to my knees..." - New Moon, p. 111
The very first line of the song reminds me so much of New Moon. Jacob, referenced by the full moon, is there for her, but she still feels an incompleteness, and wishes for Edward. In New Moon, there was so much talk about the sound of Edward's voice, too, which is why I think this song is so great for the book.
Black and blue from the wind and the rain / Said I'm sorry for the lies and the pain / I never ever meant to make you cry / If I could take you back, you know, I would / I wanna burn up and die ... My head is filled with lies I told ... It was me turning back, I left you freezing outside
WHY:
It's so melancholy, and there is an emptiness in the song from not using too many instruments. I can definitely hear this song as I think about Edward's sadness and loneliness over leaving Bella. I also really like the rain reference, and I thought the line "left you freezing outside" was so perfect.
Finally, I tripped over something - it was black now... - and I stayed down. I rolled onto my side, so that I could breathe, and curled up on the wet bracken... Was it always so dark here at night? - New Moon, p. 74
If I could see beyond the here and now / If you could hear me calling you somehow / If I could know that love is reaching out
WHY:
Being reckless was paying off better than I'd thought. Forget cheating. Maybe I"d found a way to generate the hallucinations - that was much more important. - New Moon, 185
"I think," I said slowly, "I'm not sure, but I wonder... I think maybe I knew it the whole time... Some part of me, my subconscious maybe, never stopped believing that you still cared whether I lived or died. That's probably why I was hearing the voices... And, well, I wonder if the reason I could hear you so clearly was because, underneath it all, I always knew that you hadn't stopped loving me." - New Moon, p. 525-526
The way that Bella searches for ways to hear Edward's voice is almost like she is trying to communicate with him, and calling out to him.
I can be anything that you want me to be / A punching bag, a piece of string, oh / That reminds you not to think ... Well I’m not made of steel / I’m not made of steel / But your secrets safe with me
WHY:
"How did you kill him? He was so strong, so hard, like marble..."
He sat down next to me and put one big arm around me comfortingly. "It's what we're made for, Bells. We're strong, too. I wish you would have told me that you were so afraid. You didn't need to be." - New Moon, p. 311
I always feel like Jacob wonders if he's not good enough for Bella, being that she was in love with a vampire. He's not made of steel like the lyrics say, but on one hand he still feels like he could be enough for her if she would be with him. He was the one she talked to and confided in, and was there for her especially to help her not having to think about Edward (the first lines of the song) and he knows he could be more, too. And even though he disapproves of Edward, he'll still keep her secret.
If you need a friend, don't look to a stranger / You know in the end / I'll always be there ... But if you'll wait around a while, I'll make you fall for me / I promise, I promise you I will
WHY:
"You like me, right?" ... "But don't get mad at me for hanging around, okay?" Jacob patted the back of my hand. "Because I'm not giving up. I've got loads of time." - New Moon, p. 212-213
"You promised," I reminded him desperately. "Still friends, right?"
Jacob shook his head slowly, and the lump in my throat nearly strangled me.
"You know how hard I've tried to keep that promise, but... I can't see how to keep trying. Not now..." He struggled to keep his hard mask in place, but it wavered, and then disappeared. "Miss you," he mouthed. One of his hands reached toward me, his fingers outstretched, like he wished they were long enough to cross the distance between us. - New Moon
I immediately thought of this song when I was reading about Jacob's feelings for Bella.
I could be the one / I could make it up to you / Take me back / I'm the lonely boy who loves you
WHY:
"I didn't want to do it - it felt like it would kill me to do it - but I knew that if I couldn't convince you that I didn't love you anymore, it would just take you that much longer to get on with your life. I hoped that, if you thought I'd moved on, so would you." - New Moon, p. 509
"I lied, and I'm so sorry - sorry because I hurt you, sorry because it was a worthless effort. Sorry that I couldn't protect you from what I am. I lied to save you, and it didn't work. I'm sorry." - New Moon, p. 510
From Edward's perspective, when he's explaining to Bella why he left, and that he still loves her.
Rain, rain, rain on my mind / I've got a secret life ... When they come knocking on your heart's door / Choose the one who loves you more / And when you've found something to die for
WHY:
I remembered wishing that Jacob were my brother. I realized now that all I really wanted was a claim on him... I'd have to explain it right, so that he'd know I wasn't settling, that he was much too good for me. He already knew I was broken, that part wouldn't surprise him... Would it be so wrong to try to make Jacob happy? Even if the love I felt for him was no more than a weak echo of what I was capable of, even if my heart was far away, wandering and grieving after my fickle Romeo, would it be so very wrong?" - New Moon, p. 375
A fair bit of New Moon talks about Bella being faced with the choice between Edward and Jacob. Of course, in the end, we know she really loves Edward, and that was never actually fickle about his love for her.
Now they're back at my throat and they're thirsty / I haven't proved anything until I've proved them right / This apple in my hand / I just took one bite
WHY:
"And so, now, this involves you all. I'm sorry about that." I looked at each one of their beautiful faces, saving the most beautiful for last... "But, if you don't want me, then I'm not going to force myself on you..." - New Moon, p. 530-531
Dazed and disoriented, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm - into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires. - New Moon, p. 29
Besides the obvious title, I like a few of the lyrics, relating them to the Cullens. The mention of the apple reminds me of the cover of Twilight and Bella's choices. She decides she wants to become a vampire. But at the same time, she kind of feels like she might have to prove herself to Edward's family. The song also reminds me of the beginning of New Moon, when the vampires are tempted by her blood.
No matter where I go or what I do / I’ll always be in love with you ... Said that I would jump a mile to my death / If you should ever leave / You promised that you’d always be with me /Are your black eyes turning blue?
WHY:
She eyed me dubiously. "Are you saying you didn't jump off a cliff?"
"No, but..." I grimaced. "It was for recreational purposes only." - New Moon, p. 385
Well, Bella hadn't been trying to kill herself, but she probably still wouldn't have been in that state of mind if she wasn't without Edward.
If only that line was "Are your black eyes turning gold?"
Love of mine, some day you will die / But I'll be close behind ... If there's no one beside you / When your soul embarks / Then I'll follow you into the dark
WHY:
"I don't think he ever planned to outlive you by long," Alice said quietly. - New Moon, p. 418
"Bella, I can't live in a world where you don't exist." - New Moon, p. 509
"You do realize that I'll die eventually, right?" I demanded.
He'd thought about this part, too. "I'll follow after as soon as I can." - New Moon, p. 519
So I'm pretty much one of the very few people, I'm sure, who thinks it's totally cracked out of Edward to feel this way. But oh well, whatever floats his boat.
And all that I've seen means nothing to me without you / So when I see you next we'll make the most of it / Tell the sun to start moving again / The taste of your kiss I still got on my lips / And I'll take you there with me
WHY:
"When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything." - New Moon, p. 514
But, now that Edward is back, he and Bella are ready to start anew.
As the dream nears the end / And summer lovers pass the time / Holding on to what they can't keep
WHY:
"So ready for this to be the end," he murmured, almost to himself, "for this to be the twilight of your life, though your life has barely started." - Twilight, p. 497
It reminds me of the end of Twilight, as the school year was coming to an end and Bella and Edward were basically holding on to something fleeting. Things would be changing very soon for them, but for that moment they were together.
You can't go on / thinking that nothing's wrong / Who's gonna drive you home / Tonight?
WHY:
I absolutely love this cover (I tend to like Deftones' covers!) because I think it's a really well done take on the original. Although a lot of people usually prefer originals, I included this as a bonus track because it does sound more haunting than the original, and a little more fitting for the mood in Twilight.
I really hope you enjoyed this fanmix! It took forever, but I was hoping that all of the book quotes would make the fanmix more... relatable... to the books.
